Please note: a laptop is required by all participants.

Most current laptop computers are acceptable, but specific laptop requirements include:

at least 256 Mb of memory.

bullet

CD-ROM drive.

bullet

Windows 2000 Professional or Windows XP Professional (we also suggest bringing operating system CD and license key).

bullet

ability to install new software packages and configure network access (e.g. administrator access to OS and network settings).

bullet

working Ethernet card (i.e. has been used on a TCP/IP network previously) and at least 6 feet of connection cable (straight through Category 5 with male RJ-45 connectors).

bullet

optional 802.11b/g wireless card.

Since you will be installing software and altering network parameters, we suggest that you may want to back up the system prior to attending the session, or at least record all network configuration details...consult with your system administrator.
